So i heard about this game from some nero people awhile ago and thought it would be tons of fun but at the time i didnt really have the money to do much. I sorta forgot about it till the other day when i was in a sporting goods store and seen a airsoft gun for sale. I purchased the gun rushed home took another look at the rules and this website and now im all excited to try it out.

I have some ideas for a character i would love to play but wanted to ask some questions before i get to into story for a character. so here goes if anyone could answer them that would be great.

I own a AK-47 kalashnikov and a dpms panther  rifles i would guess they would be machine guns since they can both go to full auto, i was wondering how often will i be finding ammo for these, messing around with friends in the woods near my house i have learned i can blow through 500 rounds rather fast and im worried about ammo consumption if i use one of these as a main weapon.

was also wondering about the schedule since no dates are posted just was curious when is the next time you will be having a event.

I also wanted to ask about some equipment i have. I did 4 years in the army and have a ton of things left over i managed to take with me. communication things radios, wire phones, a ghille net to name a few. will these things have any use or should i just leave em at home?

thanks in advance

Hey Matt - I'm just another player but I figured I'd post a quick reply until John or someone else can post more info.

Whatever character ideas you have, I'm sure they'll work.  Read the rules twice and when you're done, read 'em one more time.  If you're familiar with how most LARPs are set up then you'll understand what sorts of things you'll need to keep in mind when creating a character: namely you're a starting character with almost no equipment and no street cred.  If you've specific ideas and questions about the rules, might want to to post them over in the rules section (I think we've got one of those...)

As for what to bring (equipment & weapons), bring whatever you want.  You might be a little limited at first in what you can use IG but if you bring it, you'll at least have the prop for it.  My first SAGA event, I crono all of my weapons (5 I think?) but could only start with one.  However, when we found a shotgun later, I was ready with my extra prop.

As for ammo, I'm not sure if John is going to be changing the ratio but last time I played (granted I was only using a pistol and shotgun), I think I used less than 200 rounds for the entire day.  You will be limited IG by what you're able to find.  So, you likely won't be spending much time rolling on full auto much.  Only when a boss shows up or most of your group goes down.  Yeah, you'll spend a lot of time IG worrying about ammo and where you're going to find your next set of reloads  Grin

As for events, I believe John is in the process of setting up weekends and locations.  When that would be posted, don't know.  Off-handedly, I wouldn't mind trying to run something soon.  The weather is finally nice enough, it's just a matter of getting things in place.

PS - what's your general location relative to Pittsburgh?

thanks for the answers man they really help with a better understanding of the game from a new player point of view worried about the first event. I also now have a total of 5 weapons, a pistol, 3 machine guns and a uzi so i guess my favorite (the ak-47) may have to wait for a bit before i get to use it let alone blow through a magazine on full auto.

I live in the north hills west view area right off of 19 and center ave next to some huge woods were i have been practicing shooting my cousins.

thanks again for the answers they are very helpful.

I'll get a schedule up shortly.
We'll be having at least 6 events this year.
We should be starting in May.
Working out sites and times so We don't overlap with other larps.

I Think Badger covered most of your other questions quite well.
Ammo is limited.
Full auto is not common.
bring all of your guns so you have what you need if you find the card for it in game.

Rules will be updated this week.  We have made a few changes and clarifications based on play from last year.

Feel free to fire more questions this way.

Ghost between Badger and John they covered most things.  To add a bit about weapons and ammo.  Even though your AK can fire full auto it can be considered a rifle (meaning you only need to find a rifle card rather than a machine gun card.)  Also fully auto guns are rare because they are illegal and a character must have permission to use one.  At this time I only know of two characters that have permission from the government, which was earned through service.  You just need to keep the AEG in semi to use it with a rifle card.

As far as ammo.   Unlike most games where ammo is not a concern.  In SAGA it is almost THE concern.  As a character it is frustrating especially if you have a rifle or shotgun ammo can be scarce.  As a player it adds a great dimension.  No just firing for effect and the biggest gun with the largest magazine and fastest FPS wins.  It really makes you think about what you are doing and the shots you take.  You can buy it, find it, and some people can make it, so as levels increase the rarity will decrease a bit, but it will always be an issue.   Which makes sense if you think about the global circumstances at the time of the game.

Like they said bring it all you never know what you are going to find in game and need a phys rep for.

Its a great game and the people involved are all good people.  Welcome to SAGA and I hope to see you when the events start rolling.
